Different Grades of Concrete and their Uses/Applications

grades of concrete is divided in four categories, such as 1. lean concrete 2. ordinary concrete 3. standard concrete and 4. high strength concrete. In this article we will discuss the uses and applications of different grades of concrete.

Lean grade

lean grade of concrete is a mixture of concrete where the amount of water is more than the amount of cement in mixture. the ratio lean concrete mixture is 1:4:8 to 1:5:10. generally, grade M5 to M7.5 concrete mixture is known as lean concrete.

M5 grade concrete

In M5 grade concrete, M stands for mix ratio, and 5 stands for compressive strength of 150 mm cube. M5 concrete mixture ratio is generally 1:5:10. (1 cement, 5 sand, 10 aggregate)

use of M5 grade of concrete

M5 grade of concrete is used in raft and base foundation of any structure. it is also used in temporarily flooring of surface of any foundation.

M7.5 grade concrete

In M7.5 grade concrete, M stands for mix ratio, and 5 stands for compressive strength of 150 mm cube. M7.5 concrete mixture ratio is generally 1:4:8. (1 cement, 4 sand, 8 aggregate)

use of M7.5 grade of concrete

M7.5 grade of concrete is used in surface foundation of any structure, and to protect the direct contact of foundation concrete from soil and water.

ordinary grade of concrete

the ordinary grade of concrete is known as which concrete mixture whose grades in between M10 to M20.

M10 grade of concrete

In M10 grade concrete, M stands for mix ratio, and 10 stands for compressive strength of 150 mm cube. M10 concrete mixture ratio is generally 1:3:6. (1 cement, 3 sand and 6 aggregate)

use of M10 grade of concrete

M10 grade of concrete is used in base part of any structure, and to protect the direct contact of foundation concrete from soil and water.

M15 grade of concrete

In M15 grade concrete, M stands for mix ratio, and 15 stands for compressive strength of 150 mm cube. M15 concrete mixture ratio is generally 1:2:4. (1 cement, 2 sand and 4 aggregate)

M20 grade of concrete

M20 grade of concrete is used in base and raft part of any structure, and to protect the direct contact of foundation concrete from soil and water.

standard grade of concrete

standard grade of concrete is known as which concrete mixture whose grades in between M25 to M35. standard grade of concrete is always known as reinforced cement concrete.

M25 grade of concrete

In M25 grade concrete, M stands for mix ratio, and 25 stands for compressive strength of 150 mm cube. M25 concrete mixture ratio is generally 1:1:2. (1 cement, 1 sand and 2 aggregate)

use of M15 grade of concrete

M25 grade of concrete is used in Raft and wall part of structure because of its higher strength and durability.

M30 grade of concrete

In M30 grade concrete, M stands for mix ratio, and 30 stands for compressive strength of 150 mm cube. M30 concrete mixture is used as reinforced cement concrete.

M35 grade of concrete

M35 grade of concrete is used in slab and wall part of structure because of its higher strength and durability.

high strength concrete

high strength concrete is known as which concrete whose strength and durability is too high. generally high strength concrete grade is M60.

M60 grade of concrete

In M60 grade concrete, M stands for mix ratio, and 60 stands for compressive strength of 150 mm cube. M60 concrete mixture ratio is used as reinforced cement concrete.

use of M60 grade of concrete

M60 grade of concrete is only used in pear caps because of their high strength and durability. it is also used in Spillways of dams, coastal construction of a dam.
